I’ve seen this about 10 times around the ‘net in the last few weeks and finally someone has forwarded it to me in my InBox ..

For those who aren’t familiar with the view – it’s the downstream face of the dam and those dots are bighorns WALKING ACROSS IT. They’re licking the surface – salt, maybe?

According to Snopes ..

* These pictures of four-legged critters on a dam face are not photographs of bighorn sheep on the Buffalo Bill Dam in Wyoming, but of Alpine ibex on the Diga del Cingino (aka Cingino Dam) in northern Italy!

* The ibex are a type of wild mountain goat which are excellent climbers and typically live in steep, rocky terrain at higher altitudes (up to 15,000 feet above sea level), so the alpine environment of the Diga del Cingino is not an unusual habitat in which to find them.

Yes .. I am excited! I have been wearing CROCS since July 2006. I rarely wear socks with these Crocs (only if it’s below -25c or snowing outside), and since I’ve been wearing crocs I stopped having the need to wear custom molded orthotics in my shoes. I’ve had basically 3 styles of CROCS in the past 3-3/4 years .. the ordinary beach crocs, the all-terrain year round crocs (see below) and those beach crocs without the holes (see below), with the latter being my “house crocs”. I wear the beach crocs outside from spring to fall and periodically go out and just buy replacements when the underside tread is worn.

WANTING MORE CROCS

The All-Terrain crocs were purchased during XMAS 2006 and starting to wear down. Even though I only wear them during the winters, there was a hole in the back heal, and treads were starting to get worn down and it was slippery on ice, and even the inside mold was starting to wear down from me wearing it all the time.

My wife is an active runner and has been running in half-marathons for a year now .. and I will be participating in the annual Manitoba Marathon here in June 2010 – for the 10k walk. I need good walking shoes! My runners, that I use at the gym is okay on the treadmill, while I’m walking on the treadmill, but because there are no orthotics inside them my feet gets sore after a while. I tried putting gel packs inside, but all they did was push my foot up inside the runner and affect the circulation of my large, swollen feet!

I NEED TO FIND CROC WALKING SHOES!!

I went to the Crocs Site .. and found what I want and started to search all of Winnipeg for them, but couldn’t find them .. (okay .. I just called two places that I know who sells them and they didn’t know where to get them). Naturally … I went to look online.

The total cost was $121.18 USD plus $23.00 USD international shipping fees for a grand total of $144.18 USD. According to the Bank of Canada … that’s pretty much PAR and same in CDN Dollars.

I was quite disappointed when I received a phone message this morning from DHL stating that they tried to deliver my package yesterday, but couldn’t get into the apartment block. If I still wanted them to deliver the package, they could do it next week on Monday or Tuesday .. as long as I give them the apartment code for entry.

Bastards! I live in a townhouse and there is no apartment on my street at all. I had to waste an hour this morning driving down to their distribution center and picking it up. There were importing and custom fees (and GST) in the amount of $27.51 CDN. So .. pretty much my total for a new pair of walking shoes and a new pair of everyday shoes plus some socks for $171.70 CDN. Yeah … it’s a lot however, I know some other people that buy shoes costing that much (or even running shoes) a few times a year! These will last me a few years I figure. I’ll probably go back in the fall and order a third pair – winterized shoes or boots without the holes in ‘em … I saw a few models today, but maybe there will be new designs in the fall.

My parents were out of town for about 3 weeks, and I was to pick them up at the Winnipeg International Airport, or rather .. the new James Armstrong Richardson International Airport (they changed the name this year and is in a 3-year reconstruction/expansion phase) .. at 23:05pm. The plane was a half hour delayed and I arrived about 40 minutes early, due to no traffic and worry about finding a good parking space.

* So what does one do in an airport in Winnipeg at 11:30pm on a Saturday night?

Well, besides Tim Horton’s Express on the main floor .. the only other shop that was open was an arcade. So, I pulled out a $10 bill and got me some change and walked in and looked around.

HOLY SMOKES. WHAT THE HECK ARE ALL THESE THINGS? Everything seems to cost $0.50 for like, 3 minutes of time .. there were lots of cops and robbers gun games ..weird driving games .. I even hopped on one of these Water Skiing machines, for $1 a pop, where you have to swing your hips on these foot pedals to weave in and between some balls and you can do some water jumps .. for about 4 minutes. Then, there were those punching games .. those karate games .. some weird games with Anime characters on it that I’m sure some young folk know how to master .. So I left.

Unfortunately, all that was left was this huge T.V. screen in the corner watching CBC Television Hockey Night in Canada and quite frankly – I wasn’t in the mood .. nobody was there .. and I couldn’t find the remote or figure out how to change the channel without the remote.

So I went back in and looked more closely at the games to see where I can spend my remaining $5.00 in quarters … and then I saw it..

THE FROGGER SCREEN. There was one game that was a 4-in-1 arcade piece. It had Frogger, Galactica, Donkey Kong, and Ms Pacman. Now THESE are arcade games! You see, my brother and I used to have an amusement device company in the early 1980′s and supplied a few arcades in reserves .. and these are the games that I like. In fact, I got the high score in both Frogger and Galactica. The control was a bit kooky turning upwards on the Ms Pacman and for jumping on Donkey Kong .. but, it was still fun to play.

I spent all of the $5.00 in quarters (yes! only $0.25 per game still!) .. and it helped pass the time until the plane touched down. And, by the way .. if you click on the graphic – you can go play Frogger online yourself.

Even to this day, if there is nothing else on T.V. I will watch the animated series .. I did watch the Spiderman 1 in the theatre .. but, I admittedly, I waited until Spiderman 2 reached Pay-Per-View to watch. Chances are I will do the same or wait until Spiderman 3 hits normal Movie Channel programming … *yawn*
