When I first moved to Portland, we had arrived just in time to see a Last Thursday’s Event. We actually just stumbled on to it while we were looking for places to rent. It was a creative welcome to the city. Artists and musicians were everywhere. Just a big street party on a very long street. So I got to filming and documented some interesting sites. I’ve never encountered the opportunity to see such a raw collection of talent. Artists set up shop everywhere — in doorways and on street corners. The array is staggering.” … “In front of Frock clothing boutique, an electronic DJ had set up shop. There were musicians on many of the street corners on our way back home, two were solo cellists. Some fire dancers were mesmerizing passersby on one corner, and the gathering crowd brought street traffic nearly to a halt.” www.artonalberta.org There has been a “Last Thursday” on Alberta Street since 1997. The event is held every month, year round. The galleries, studios, restaurants and other art venues on the street open their doors for a celebratory evening of art.
