@tombokickass … not strictly speaking, depends on what key its in . minor/major ..

tombokickass November 9, 2010 at 12:54 pm

@GerRaffe321 No, majors and minors have nothing to do with it.
Db major is the same as C# major. They are enharmonic. They sound exactly the same, yet they are written differently, Motherfucker. ๐Ÿ˜‰

@helmut4lyfe Video tape was introduced in 1957, the year after Tatum died. He was filmed on many occasions. people today use “video” to describe moving film.

@TheMikester307 Guys like him lived on steak and booze back then. George Gershwin, Kurt Wile, Louis Jordan and more all lived the good life and keeled over around age 50.

@pianiplunker he was a fantastic improviser, because he could arrange and re-harmonize on the spot, which really is the essence of improvising. such complex arrangements as this one of course are carefully worked out, i agree

@guitarslim56

How is there video of him then? Dumb ass.

Tatum must have had 88 fingers, one for each key. My goodness, the way he tickles the ivories is impeccable.

@florafox sort of..listen to his later works, they are very mature, obviously, but clearly new in some, hard to pin down sense. “classical” music (as opposed to boroque) hadnt quite gone where he was going, though it is hard, even so much later, to say exactly why/how/in what way. Requim is especially telling.

@helmut4lyfe Actually video tape technology was still in developmental stages when Art Tatum died in 1956. Most “videos” of Tatum playing are kinescopes.
