I think Steve Carell will be a perfect Maxwell Smart .. what do you think? I heard it on the radio, so I it had to be true … then I did a google search ..!
The Facts: After being in development since 1999, Get Smart The Movie started filming March 26, 2007 and is scheduled to be released June 20, 2008. It will star Steve Carell as Max, Anne Hathaway as 99, and be directed by Peter Segal. Alan Arkin will be playing The Chief, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will be playing Agent 23, and Terence Stamp will be playing the Szczerbiak character, who will be the main villain in the movie. David Koechner and The Great Khali also have roles in the movie. There have been numerous versions of the script over the years, with the “finished” version by Tom Astle and Matt Ember, though Steve Carell and B.J. Novak have had a hand in rewrites of that “finished” script. Unfortunately, the script and lead characters bear little resemblance to Get Smart (see below) and so much of the plot is similar to Johnny English that you might as well call this Johnny American. Andrew Lazar, Charles Roven and Alex Gartner are producing the project. Carell also has an executive producer credit. The projected budget for the movie is $50- $60 million, including all the development costs. A detailed plot summary is below, after numerous spoiler warnings ……
