Welcome to Winterpeg .. again
call HART crazy .. but
We received over 29cm of snow December 31st .. today we are preparing for round 2. According to the weather channel and local news shows .. we’re expected to receive 5-10cm before dinner tonight and 5-10cm of snow over night before morning. So, altogether they are expecting between 5cm and 15cm of snow.
You know .. they just barely finished cleaning the snow from the last time!
And you know what? We wouldn’t call it WINTERPEG if we didn’t get the Winter!
On December 31, 2006 .. my parents had a flight from Winnipeg to Vancouver, and then they were planning on connecting on a plane to Prince George BC and then drive to just west of Quesnel area I believe. They were assured by the Winnipeg International Airport … or rather the new James Richardson International Airport (they renamed our airport) …that the flights were not cancelled or delayed that day .. and despite 29cm of snow and many side streets being unpassable .. they believed them and never double checked.
They had been planning that trip for weeks, because they were also taking their dog Sammi directly in a Carry-On dog cage onto their plane and in fact, had been practicing how much tranquilizer to give him for the journey. The flight was for 2:30pm that day, and I was up since 8am shoveling snow trying to make that deadline. I did get them to the airport by 1:30pm .. and they never reached Prince George until after Midnight - BC Time (which is two hours earlier than here).
Well .. it was the New Year’s Eve day on the last winter snow fall and we had plans - so, it was in our best interest to shovel. However .. we live in a Condominium and I’m sorry .. but that’s what my Common Element fees are supposed to go! If I get snowed in tonight or tomorrow .. I’ll stay here and wait until they dig me out!
Of course, I work out of my home so it might be a blessing! My wife .. on the other hand, has to drive to work like the rest of the masses. If I have to shovel to dig a car out of a snow bank .. I’ll make the exception - for her!
