WINNIPEG, MANITOBA: The Good And The Ugly

call HART crazy .. but

There has been a lot of talent that has come out of Winnipeg. Honestly, I think the lack of recognition might be that Winnipeg’ers all want to be rich and famous, or both .. but really don’t wan’t the world to know where we come from - because it’s nice here in out little place in Canada. Prices are not skyrocketing (yet), we get a lot of sun, we are home of people like Burton Cummings, Neil Young, Harlequinn, and other famous musicians and non-musicians .. we are an hour’s drive away from the U.S.A. border and 3-hour drive to Grand Forks, North Dakota (4 hours to Fargo) .. and an hour’s drive to Lake Winnipeg and some of the greatest beaches in the world .. Gimli, Grand Beach, Victoria Beach (where we have a cottage now), and so on and so on! We have about 10,000 lakes in Manitoba and many Provincial forests and parks and up north Manitoba you can get the best fishing comparable to anywhere .. visit Churchill and go Whale Hunting and find some polar bears above the tree line. I have no plans to be a public broadcast for Tourism Manitoba .. but, I just wanted you all to first visualize what Manitoba is all about .. besides being in the center of Canada (yes it’s true) and being in the center of North America! (Okay, I’m not sure if THAT’s true, but we like to think so!).

WINNIPEG: THE UGLY

About the New Drama / Soap Show Website .. Falcon Beach

Falcon Beach is a hot new drama that centres around a group of young adults of different social and economic backgrounds who cross paths in the lakeside resort town of Falcon Beach. It’s about summer. It’s about freedom. But it’s also about two worlds colliding - that of the summer cottagers and that of the townies who live and work in Falcon Beach year round.

The townies are Jason Tanner , a local wakeboard jock whose father died when he was just a kid, Tanya , Jason’s childhood sweetheart who has just returned after a four-year modeling stint in Europe, and Danny, Jason’s best friend, a goofy arcade manager. The cottagers are Paige Bradshaw, a spoiled and snobby Toronto rich girl who wants nothing more than to be doing an internship at her father’s big corporation in Toronto rather than be dragged to her mother’s childhood memory cove, Lane Bradshaw , Paige’s conceited and self-destructive brother, a coke addict and dealer, and Erin, who comes to Falcon Beach every summer to be a lifeguard at the beach.

SOURCE

First of all .. Falcon Beach is a real place. It’s off the Trans Canada Highway, in Manitoba on the way to West Hawk Lake and Ontario’s Kenora, and other resorts. I grew up with a cottage all my life, until I was about 16 years old. First we had a cottage in Caddy Lake, which was around the border of Manitoba and Ontario, and used to always go out to Falcon Beach. Falcon Beach is like a mini-town, resort on Falcon Lake. Here’s the picture, or you can just go yourself on .. Google Maps.

Of course, being a Manitoba / Winnipeg Production .. they are doing all of the filming out at Winnipeg Beach. Our Cottage is just across the bay at Victoria Beach. We went swimming last weekend, and the water was cold :)

But .. here’s the Good News … Recently .. this Falcon Beach Drama/Soap show was distributed by Fremantle International Distribution, the distribution arm of production outfit FremantleMedia to USA, UK, Australia, Eire, Belgium, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Turkey, and Israel. It has already been broadcasted (besides here in Canada), to France, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Netherlands and Iceland!

DO YOU RECOGNIZE THIS SHOW? FALCON BEACH ?

Again, I find this blurb in the news report interesting ..

It’s sexy, edgy and full of energy - it’s the essence of summer. Falcon Beach (26 x 1 hour, plus 1 x 2 hour pilot) is produced by Insight Productions and Original Pictures, in conjunction with Global Television and ABC Family USA and centres on the lives and loves of the town’s young men and women, as they find their way towards their futures.

Falcon Beach is a quiet lakeside town where locals and summer visitors mingle and where seduction, sand and scandal are abundant. A coming-of-age drama following a group of twenty-somethings, Falcon Beach focuses on friends, families and enemies during a summer of romance and passion, soul-searching and conflicts. With a hot young cast full of beauty and brawn, Falcon Beach is set to make household names of Steve Byers as Jason Tanner, Jennifer Kydd as Paige Bradshaw, Devon Weigel as Tanya Shedden and Morgan Kelly as Lane Bradshaw, who lead a talented ensemble cast.

Anyway … CALL HART CRAZY … BUT …

That was the U-G-L-Y Part of this Blog Entry …

SORRY WORLD, FOR THIS CRAPPY T.V. SHOW~! I watched it, and almost puked from laughing so hard! Although, as a Manitoban, it was only slightly cool trying to recognize Winnipeg Beach Landmarks in the TV Show.

WINNIPEG: The Good

Okay .. this is totally cool. I’m sure everybody is aware of the new movie coming out next week … SUPERMAN RETURNS .. with Kevin Spacey, et al .. Well, I’m excited because I don’t care what critics say .. I will always go see Super Hero movies and love them. We need more Super Hero Movies out there! WooHoo! Yaaaaay!

But - did you know ….

One of the 20 ? or so special effect companies that participated on this film is one of Winnipeg’s own special effects company called … FRANTIC FILMS ?

I’m not supposed to give anything away (okay .. I don’t really know! - will somebody send me gaddam tickets to the premier already?) .. but this local Winnipeg Company is directly responsible for two of the most amazing effects in this movie….

1) The actual glow of all Kryptonite ..
2) The Underwater Lair ..

When you see the movie, pay attention to both of these … and think .. WINNIPEG!

THAT WAS THE G-O-O-D Part of this Blog Entry …

Your Welcome World.
