call HART crazy .. but
In the past few days we have been having really nice weather .. reaching about 30c during late afternoon. Yesterday around 3:30pm it suddenly got black all over the city and we all had about a torrential rainstorm that lasted maybe 10 minutes, drizzled for another 20 minutes, then stopped and cleared up.
That’s how the rain has been off and on for the past two weeks.
Well – I live in a condominium, townhouse style house where there are four units attached to it .. we’re on the east side, as the outside unit. This morning, our neighbor, who lives on the west side, outside unit knocked on the door bright and early and asked ..
Is Your Basement Flooded Too?
Oh crap .. No! Don’t kid me like that! … So I go into the basement and sure enough, 3 inches of water on one side of the house where the water meter and sewer is, about 2 inches of water where all the other good stuff is stored, including the cat litter and furniture .. and about 1/4 inch at the top level of the basement where the drain is and the washing machines. That’s the worst part – the drain is in the higher part of the basement floor. I will have to mop up this water and go through the damage. I know my insurance does NOT cover this type of damage (from experience) .. and surely another day will be wasted for me today.
The serious damage of the lot are my two Keyboards/Sythesizers that were in hard shell carrying cases, but standing up on its edge in the deep end of the basement lake. Some of my files could be a little wet on the bottom. I have stored about 50-60 banker boxes of client records stacked in layers of 3 in my basement (the old storage files, not the current files) but they are all 3 inches off the ground on a platform I built. I wanted the records at least that much off the ground just in cases of times like this, but a preliminary walk-through shows that they are all probably untouched by water.
