A 12-year-old Winnipeg girl had to have medical treatment after eating Halloween candy with a small needle lodged in it.

Police say the girl had been trick-or-treating in Winnipeg’s St. Vital area – specifically along St. Mary’s Road, St. Anne’s Road and Kingston Row – but they do not know at which address the offending candy was given out.

The girl had her tongue punctured while eating a mini-sized lollipop with chocolate filling.

Police remind parents to check their children’s candy carefully, and not to let them eat any unpackaged or repackaged treats.
